Jackie Brown

In many ways, a typically Tarantino movie. The crime, the oddballs, the hip dialogue--it's all there. Yet, it's also a quieter, almost softer movie than Q's other works. But don't worry--people still get shot. Oh, yeah, and the soundtrack is the bomb.

The Road To Wellville

You have to make a decision, folks: am I making a comedy, or a drama? Few can pull off both at the same time. And when you don't pull it off...well, kids, don't try that at home. Also, it helps to have a story, as opposed to stories, each of which only vaguely relates to the others. Put it all together, as with this movie, and you've got quite a mess. The few truly funny moments indicate that a tighter comedy would have been a good decision. Way too late now.

Monkeybone

A movie about a man in a coma, which is profoundly lifeless. I guess synergy does work. All the creative juice went into the visuals here; they are occasionally interesting, but that's barely enough to pull you in. At least the easy-on-the-eyes Rose McGowan is present. Brendan Fraser and Bridget Fonda can do better, and the Z-grade rest of the cast adds little to the mix. Mostly, there's just a feeling that this should have been much better than it is. Posted .
