Back for more exploitation punishment. But, surprise, this installment in the series is actually better than the original. Which is not to say this one isn't chock full of '70s exploitation elements; pearl-clutchers should stay away from this flick. But the battles are better, there's more of an intelligent storyline, and there's even some artful direction beyond the flashy stuff that inspired any number of later actioners. If not for the rape and nudity and bloodiness, you might see this flick cited among the "classics" of back in the day--but then it wouldn't be quite so perversely entertaining. I'll hold back on the PURR because of the rough edges, but the MEOW--which was tenuous for the original--is more well deserved here.Saturday, March 20, 2021
