Finding Dory

There are moments, particularly early on, when you have to be a bit worried that this flick is going to be tedious and not worth your time. But then the sheer inventiveness of the storytelling—in figuring out ever more clever ways of having marine creatures get around out of the water—works its magic, and you can’t help but admire the cumulative effect of the thing. There aren’t many home runs in this tale, but there sure are a lot of singles and doubles here, enough to ensure this movie makes it home—pun/entendres intended—with more than enough scores to earn the win. Go fish.

Love and Death

The best of this movie comes in the form of great one liners and gags. The rest of the film is just silly stuff that doesn't play as well. But really, those great jokes really are great jokes, more than enough to keep you interested and laughing.

Something's Gotta Give

The positive review comes largely on the strength of Diane Keaton's energetic performance. She injects such life into her character that it becomes difficult not to be interested in this otherwise slight and predictable story. The biggest quibble: when the happy ending finally comes, you can't help feeling that she wound up with the wrong man. It's a credit to Keaton that you actually care about that.

A tepid work--something all too typical for recent Woody Allen. Not enough good jokes to make it worthwhile.
