This, a sort-of sequel to Saludos Amigos, is even stupider than the first entry. Again, this probably wowed 'em in 1944 due to its mix of live action and animation, but at this point it comes across as hopelessly dated, not especially interesting in a visual sense--with a few exceptional sequences thrown in, mostly for their realistic representation, not for creative design--and bogged down with extended musical numbers that probably only appeal to those already inclined toward being open to the musical styles represented. For this viewer personally, it all came across as tedious, noisy and probably not even particularly authentic. Ultimately, just a footnote in film history. Wednesday, April 6, 2022
