Sword of Sherwood Forest

Decent, old-fashioned fun. So many guys get shot in this flick with arrows and bolts it's like watching a cooking show recipe for shish kebab. No doubt, this is inferior material vs the Errol Flynn classic, but it's not a bad retelling of the old story. And 'retelling' is appropriate; it's essentially the same story as always, but there are just enough new wrinkles to make this outing seem relatively fresh. A few slow moments drag the proceedings to something close to a halt, but they're not bad enough to bog down a flick that's otherwise big on action, generally well executed, and strong on the scenery and production value. All in all, this one robs from a rich tradition, but doesn't leave you feeling too poor afterward.
