I guess Bob Hope was more than just a guy doing specials on NBC after all. He stars here as the hapless dentist who gets mixed up with Calamity Jane in some absurd investigative plot. She's played by Jane Russell, who's the real star here. She's stunning to look at, and more than capable as a comic actress. Some of the antics just come off as silly, though the barrage of jokes relentlessly thrown at the audience--mostly by Hope--does hit the mark once in a while. This is certainly a relic at this point, and not just for being a Western, but it retains some value as a mild amusement, worth seeing if you have the inclination--if for no other reason than for seeing the way it was done back in the day.
