Lady Bird

This may be the most superfluous review on this site, possibly even of all time, since this flick was just about the most talked-about movie released in a long time. Most of what you heard is true: it's an immensely enjoyable viewing experience. In the hands of a less intelligent filmmaker, our heroine would have been a more standard coming-of-age movie teen, which is to say, a shrieking harridan who is thus unsympathetic and off-putting. Not so here; our girl has bad moments, but never loses the audience's sympathy. In retrospect, there are minor elements that might ring false for the viewer, but only if one examines a little too closely. Otherwise there's a lot of truth in this story, and that's why so many people responded so well to it. Be one of those people.
