For Your Eyes Only

It’s fun. Dopey, somewhat shallow, and hardly high art--but fun. Perhaps this film gets higher marks simply because the producers pulled back from the absurdities and missteps of Moonraker; this is much more a straightforward, standard Bond-Cold War scenario, and it works better than the series trying to be something it’s not. This is, however, the point where Roger Moore really started to show his age; in retrospect, it is somewhat amazing that he held onto the role for two more films. Overall, hardly a classic, but watchable, and--as noted--even fun if you lower your expectations.
